RED DEAD REDEMPTION: Soundtrack Interview

Yesterday Minnesotta Public Radio (MPR) featured composer and musician Bill Elm on their new weekly podcast, Top Score, that focuses solely on video game soundtracks. In the interview Bill discusses what it was like to work with Rockstar Games, developing what turned into roughly 18 hours of soundtrack for last year's blockbuster hit Red Dead Redemption.

There's also a lot of talk and clips in the interview from Bill's Austin based instrumental band, Friends of Dean Martinez, that display the similarity between his band's sound and that featured in the Red Dead soundtrack.

The game has become a modern classic; a fact that many would agree has just as much to do with it's amazingly unique soundtrack, as it does with it's incredibly vast, incredibly detailed, open world setting.

Overall, RDR fused great characters, with great story & gameplay - all the while supported by a great soundtrack that never got old, even after hours upon hours of playing.

All that considered, it's safe to say that Red Dead Redemption was not only one of the coolest games in recent memory, but it also had one of the most memorable soundtracks too. So if you've got and extra 26 minutes or so to spare, it's an interesting listen for both fans of the game and musicians/aspiring video game composers alike. If nothing else, the short clips of soundtrack in the interview are sure to bring back some fond Red Dead memories in that way that only music can.
